A NEW CHAPTER

Horseracing, like all competitive sports, comes with a risk of injury at any level. With that said, we are very sad to report that Burrow Seven has unfortunately suffered an injury during training and the decision has been made to retire him from racing.

The wellbeing of Burrow Seven comes first, and we want to reassure you that he will continue to live a happy and fulfilling life. In fact, he already has his next career lined up as he will be retrained as an equine welfare and therapy horse – the perfect role for such a loving horse.  

Burrow Seven’s journey doesn’t finish here. And neither does The Good Racing Company’s. We’ve already lined up an exciting racehorse to step in and carry on the great work of his predecessor!

AN UPDATE ON BURROW SEVEN

Burrow Seven has suffered a repetitive injury to his front leg. It’s the same injury that has hampered him a couple of times in the last few years. An ultrasound has revealed a longitudinal split to his tendon, which would almost certainly happen again if he continued to race. Injuries like this are very difficult to treat, and a full recovery isn’t always possible, meaning he can’t continue to do the strenuous training needed to compete against other racehorses. 

We can’t thank Burrow Seven enough for everything he’s achieved – thanks to the generosity of our members – he’s helped to raise over £100,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity. 

Burrow Seven will always be a part of The Good Racing Co. family. As our first-ever equine ambassador, his legacy will continue to be felt. We’ll keep you updated on his recovery and his future career as an equine welfare and therapy horse.

We are happy to announce that Beep Beep Burrow is Burrow Seven’s successor! We’re so excited to have a new horse in our stables, with a bright future, ready to help continue our fundraising efforts.

WHY BEEP BEEP?

Well, back in his playing days, Rob’s Leeds Rhino’s team-mates gave him this nickname – inspired by the ‘Roadrunner’ character from Loony Tunes. Rob’s kids loved this, and when asked what the new horse should be called, there was only one name it could be.

Beep Beep Burrow is a 5-year-old chestnut gelding with four white socks. His sire is the hugely successful stallion Malinas and his dam is Ballygambon Girl. Malinas is by Lomitas (sire of Danedream) from the family of Monsun. Malinas, who stands at the famous Rathbarry Stud in Ireland, began his stallion career in 2021. He has already bred multiple winning jumpers in the UK, Ireland and France including Mister Malarky, Medinas, Union Dues, Dark Raven, Malinda Girl and Mighty Thunder, winner of the Scottish Grand National.

Like Burrow Seven, Beep Beep Burrow will be under the stewardship of Jedd O’Keeffe and the talented team at High Beck Lodge. He’s settling in well and can’t wait to get going. And he won’t have to wait long …

READY TO RACE

The really exciting news is that Beep Beep Burrow has been entered to race in the 3:25pm at Sedgefield on Tuesday 22^nd November!

Here is a message from Jedd, recorded a short time before the race date had been locked in.  

As Jedd mentions, most horses have a preferred running ground. Beep Beep is very versatile but should the ground turn into “heavy going” – which means very, very muddy, there is a chance he may be pulled from the race because he won’t be able to be as competitive as he could be. But we’ll be sure to let you know if this happens. 

We’re so, so excited to cheer on Beep Beep Burrow at his first race!
